Iwata Hi-Line airbrush...
...from Iwata, via The Airbrush Company

Airbrush manufacturer Iwata changed the look of their packaging to match their '5 Ways to Spray' branding. A frequent question from beginners to airbrushing is which is the right airbrush to choose. The answer lies largely in the question 'what do you want to use it for?' They divide the Iwata range into 5 categories ranging from very fine detail work to very broad coverage. Users also vary enormously from commercial vehicle painters, to artists, cosmetic artists, cake decorators and modellers. Some of their products fit firmly into one of the categories while some may span a couple. It helps you to select the most appropriate product for each individual who wants to use an airbrush. They also range in price, as do their compressors, which is reflected in their costs, which are important to so many customers. I think this is especially useful for the hobbyist even more than the commercial customer.
The Hi-Line fits in to Category 2, so suitable for more detailed work though still not the finest detail, which would be covered by their Custom Micron range. The Hi-Line has a small, fixed paint cup and I have been using it particularly for the green/red-brown disruptive camouflage on German military vehicles for the 1943-45 period of WW2. I have found it easy and comfortable to use, and get good results with models in a variety of scales, including 1/35, 1/56, 1/72 and 1/100 (15mm). The other important aspect of any airbrush is that it is easy enough to clean. A spanner to help take it apart and a small tube of lube to help keep it working nicely. The first time I have used one for this finer coverage and I have to say I really like it.
