A1386 Ferret Scout Car Mk.1
Rolling in at skill level 2, the 1:35 scale Ferret Scout Car Mk.1 makes its entrance as its second
release since the base mould from the 2023 release, but this time featuring the Mk.1 variant.
Featuring new parts and options for hatches open or closed, this kit brings three schemes to the
table to choose from, including a scheme from operation Granby as depicted on the box art. This kit
consists of 194 parts, measuring in at 55mm in width and 112mm in length.
Although armoured, the Ferret Scout Car was never intended to face enemy heavy armour, relying
on its low profile, speed and stealth to make contact with enemy units, some of which were engaged
in similar reconnaissance roles. Creeping into contested territory, the Ferret was built for sniffing out
the enemy, but not to cause trouble in an offensive sense.
Their role was to send real-time radio reports back to HQ and, should their scouting take them out of
radio range, to utilise a second HQ Ferret to relay messages back. They provided military planners
with information and, if detected, the Ferret would extricate the crew away from any combat
situation at speed.
As long as they were only targeted by small arms fire, they would have adequate protection until
their driver could get them out of harm’s way, speeding back towards more friendly territory.
Scheme A: Ferret Scout Car Mk.1/1, C Squadron, Lugershall, British Army, 1980's.
Scheme B: Ferret Scout Car Mk.1/2, 7th Armoured Brigade, Operation Granby, Saudi
Arabia/Kuwait, British Army, 1991.
Scheme C: Ferret Scout Car Mk.1/1, Queen's Royal Irish Hussars, RAC Centre Bovington, British
Army, 1959.
