Title: World War II Tank Spotter's Guide
Compiled By: Chris McNab
Publisher: Osprey
ISBN: 978-1-4728-6678-3
A new 128-page soft-cover book from Osprey, a handy pocket reference for anyone getting into an interest in WW2 tanks.
Grouped by country, there are 40 tanks covered in this new spotters guide. The countries in order, are France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, the Soviet Union, UK and USA. So it isn't all the tanks of WW2, but 40 of the best known. They also have a couple which are separate variants, such as the T=34/76 and another entry for the /85, the Churchill Infantry tank and the Crocodile are also listed separately, as are both the Lee and the Grant variants of the M3. Each entry has some basic background history of the type, and a table of basic statistics, such as weight, size, armament, crew. armour thickness and more. Each one is also illustrated with a neat colour profile artwork, a style well known from within their usual series of books.
This is nicely produced, a small format book that would be handy to put in a coat pocket. It can provide a useful quick reference guide for the armour enthusiast, plus, with a good value price point, it could be a great present for your children/grandchildren if you want to encourage them to share a common interest with you. With 40 tanks covered, there are some that have been left out, but this is just a spotters guide, so doesn't claim to be an encyclopaedia of all the tanks of WW2.
Thanks to Osprey for the review copy.
