Title: Wellington's Cavalry & Technical Corps, 1800-1815
Author: Gabrielle Esposito

A title which is self-explanatory, plus the inclusion of the artillery. A 132-page hard-cover book covering the British forces of the Napoleonic era, leading up to the Battle of Waterloo.
The book is split across 7 chapters, starting with the Life and Horse Guards, with some background history that I hadn't known before, then moving on to the Heavy Cavalry and then the Light Cavalry. After these we get to the Artillery and Technical Corps, before the Yeomanry, Fencible and Foreign Units. The Foreign Units include such as the Kings German Legion and, thankfully for me, an explanation of the Fencible units, which I can't remember hearing of before. The last two chapters cover Colonial Cavalry and Artillery and finally, the Royal Marines, Royal Marine Artillery and Sea Fencibles. All have their historical background to the units and detailed descriptions of their uniforms and equipment, often including lists of the many regiments and their identifying colours of piping and/or facings. Lots of colour artwork illustrating the many uniforms which are really attractive to see.
This has interesting historical notes but I think the heart of the book rests with the colour artwork illustrating the many and varied uniforms, accompanied by text which includes detailed notes on these uniforms that will interest historians, re-enactors and, I suspect, modellers and wargamers in particular. An excellent reference in my view.
Thanks to Pen & Sword for the review copy.
