Title: The Japanese Battleship Kongo 1944
Author: Waldemar Goralski
Publisher: Kagero
ISBN: 978-83-66673-23-6
Number 110 in the TopDrawings series of soft-cover books from Kagero, featuring a large number of 3D drawings of detailed elements of this major vessel of the Imperial Japanese Navy of WW2. The brief background on the opening page gives us the basic history of the ship. I suspect some might be surprised to discover it was originally built as far back as 1913, in the shipyards of Barrow-in-Furness here in the UK. It had gone through 2 periods of major refits by the time of WW2. The book illustrates it in the form it had in 1944.
There are 24 pages to the book, with 3D plans of detailed elements of the ship, including the various decks of the bridge structure, ships boats and more. Detail which includes the rigging of the masts which will make a very useful guide for ship modellers. Tucked within the pages is a separate fold-out sheet of B2 paper with not only some more drawings, but also a set of 1/350 scale plans. Then on the back cover of the book, a set of colour plans showing the vessel, again a really useful reference for modellers.
Clearly a very useful reference for warship modellers, and the ships of the IJN of WW2 are very popular. The Kongo itself was torpedoed and sunk by the US submarine, USS Sealion. Another good addition to the TopDrawings series.
Thanks to Casemate UK, the distributor for the Kagero range of books.
