The Iran-Iraq War

...a Middle East @ War Special, from Helion & Co

Title: The Iran-Iraq War
Author: E.R.Hooton, Tom Cooper, Farzin Nadimi with Bob Mackenzie
Publisher: Helion & Co
ISBN: 978-1-804511-56-5

This large new book is the first 'Special' in the Middle East @ War series from Helion & Co. A 415-page soft-cover book, packed with detail, archive photos and some neat artwork showing aircraft, afv's and uniforms from the conflict.
There was a previous series on this war within their Middle East @ War series but this combines those 4 volumes and adds even more information with a series of new appendices. In addition to the text that tells the story, there are lots of archive photos, most of which are in colour, plus some helpful maps and as many as 5 sections of colour artwork, illustrating AFVs, helicopters and uniforms. The war lasted 8 years, from 1980 through to 1988. There were ups and downs for both sides and it ended in a draw, with both sides exhausted, both militarily and economically. The new appendices add a lot to the main story of the war, and these cover Arms Acquisitions ad Ground Forces Equipments of Iran: Organisation of the Iranian Army: Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps: Iraqi Weapons Deliveries: and Iraqi Organisation.
The longest running conventional war of the 20th Century with large numbers of casualties on both sides. Often seen as a conflict involving Warsaw Pact weaponry on one side and Western weaponry on the other. From my memory of the time we didn't see extensive news coverage of the war so I found a lot to learn in this one, and all covered in the one book. Modellers will enjoy the colour profiles and possibly prompt a new theme for a collection.
Thanks to Helion & Co for the review copy.
