Title: Target Saigon, Vol.3, 1973-75
Author: Albert Grandolini
Publisher: Helion & Co
ISBN: 978-1-912390-19-9

Subtitled 'Disaster at Da Nang 1975', this is volume 3 of a 4-volume set on the final stages of the Vietnam War, and the eventual fall of Saigon, bringing the Vietnam War to an end. A 68-page book which marks number 32 in their Asia @ War series.
It starts with the situation following the Paris Accords of 1973, and the withdrawal of US forces from South Vietnam. This includes how the situation was then viewed by both North and South Vietnamese governments, plus the attitudes of the USA itself along with both Russia and China, as supporters of the North. President Thieu decided that the ARVN should withdraw from the Central Highlands and the NVA took the famous city of Hue, moving on and taking Da Nang as well, cities famous from earlier years, during the US involvement in Vietnam. It led to the North Vietnamese leadership decide to take advantage of the speed of their new conquests, and they moved south with all they could manage. Mobilising tanks, artillery, trucks, and even ships, they pressed on South, along with quantities of captured ARVN equipment. The ARVN forces did put up some resistance, but they continued to fall back.
The story told by the text is well supported by maps plus a lot of archive photos, showing equipment from the armies of both North and South. The variety of Chinese and Russian equipment in use, along with the US vehicles and aircraft used by the South means there is lots in here for the modeller, as well as simply those interested in the history of the war in Vietnam. In the centre pages are 12 pages of colour artwork, 3 with maps and the remainder with profiles of aircraft and ground vehicles, along with a few uniform illustrations. Another good book for anyone interested in the long history of the Vietnam War.
Thanks to Helion & Co for our review copy.
