Tanks in Operation Bagration 1944

...New Vanguard 318 from Osprey

Title: Tanks in Operation Bagration 1944
Author: Steven J. Zaloga
Publisher: Osprey
ISBN: 978-1-4728-5395-0

New Vanguard 318 is a recent addition to this series from Osprey, and another from the popular author, Steven Zaloga. A 48-page soft-cover book focusing on the demolition of Army Group Center in 1944.
With the huge tank battle of Kursk behind them, the German and Russian armies prepared for battle again in 1944. The book neatly explains some changes in unit organisations within the German army, to replace losses while the Russians began to deploy new AFVs such as the up-gunned T-34/85 and the JS-2. As well as the German and Russian forces, the allies of both sides who were involved are also included. Hungary ad Romania were the main ones for Germany, and Poland for the Red Army. The Campaign is then covered with 3 elements, the launch of Operation Bagration, and the offensives of Lvov-Sandomiertz and Iaso-Chisinau. All rounded off with a Battle Analysis.
The interesting text is accompanied by plenty of data tables, including AFV strengths and the records of losses by different causes, though of course German and Russian records don't quite match and as noted by the author, there are some questions about what might have been missed altogether. Add some colour artwork with a battle scene and a number of fine profiles by Filipe Rodriguez.
Thanks to Osprey for the review copy.
