Number 368 in the Campaign series from Osprey, and one of a 3 volume set on the subject of the Battle for Stalingrad. A 96-page soft-cover book in the usual style for the series.
Moving on from the first volume, this one takes the story on to tackle the fight for the city itself. It opens with the background, along with a Chronology covering main events from 31 August through to 11 November 1942. Then sections on the various commanders involved from both sides, before going on to set out the available forces for both sides, with their respective Order of Battles. This leads the bulk of the book to tell us what happened in the next stage of the battle, as the fight for the city itself unfolded. The urban battle was fierce, with a forceful German offensive but faced with a stubborn Soviet resistance that resulted in heavy looses on both sides. Fighting for areas such as the Krasny Oktyabr steel works, the Grain Elevator and more. Information has been gathered from both sides to establish the stories of what happened, illustrated with archive images, various maps, including some small area details and with 3D maps of the Orlovka Salient, the steel works. along with Operation Hubertus & Liudnikov's Island.
There are small sections at the end which provide Analysis of the battle ad what can be found on the battlefield today. Stalingrad remains one of the most famous battles of the Eastern Front in WW2, and this leads us onto what will be in the 3rd part of this story.
