Russian Aircraft of WWII

...1939-45, A Technical Guide, from Amber Books

Title: Russian Aircraft of WWII, 1939-45
Author: Edward Ward
Publisher: Amber Books
ISBN: 978-1-83886-083-7

A recent addition to the series of 'Technical Guides' from Amber Books, with this one being for the aviation enthusiast. A small format 128-page hardback providing a handy reference on the many Soviet aircraft types of WW2.
It is organised into sections by type, so after the scene setting of the Introduction they divide into Fighters, Bombers & Ground Attack, Reconnaissance & Transport, Seaplanes & Maritime aircraft. Each aircraft has an individual entry with a nice colour profile artwork to illustrate it, along with basic statistics such as dimensions, powerplant, speed, range, crew, armament etc. These are accompanied by text with a basic history of the development and service. Some aircraft are well known, such as Mig-3, the Lavochkin LA-7, Illyushin Il-2 as well as Lend-Lease types such as the Hurricane, Airacobra and Spitfire, among others. There are also less well known types, including the Russian Gribovsky G-11 and Antanov A-7 transport gliders, or how about the Lisunov Li-2, which is a licence-built DC-3 but with the addition of a dorsal turret. Some entries do include an archive photo or two, but not all.
A very useful little reference on Soviet aircraft, and it included a good number which were new to me, so another good value addition to this series of Technical Guides from Amber Books.
Thanks to Amber Books for the review copy.
