Rodney and Nelson

...a revised edition of ShipCraft 23 from Seaforth Publishing

Title: Rodney and Nelson
Author: Les Brown and Robert Brown
Publisher: Seaforth Publishing
ISBN: 978-1-0361-5033-4

This is a new edition of ShipCraft 23 from Seaforth, a 64-page soft-cover book, though also available in e-book formats. Updated to include new models on the market since it was first released back in 2015.
The first 16 pages have the historical side of the story, the building and development of these 2 famous ships, with their unusual design having 3 main gun turrets all mounted at the front of the ship, and none at the stern. They had a distinctive look to them, with their 9 x 16in guns. It includes their deployments throughout the war and a good selection of archive photos. That leads into the 7-page section listing various model products that can be found in various scales. Then the revised Modellers' Showcase, which features 9 high quality builds, with models in 1/200, 1/350, 1/600 and 1/700, from a variety of manufacturers, all beautifully done. The next 4-pages hold colour profile artwork, showing the ships at different stages in their careers. In the closing stages of the book there are more details of the various changes made to each vessel, and how they altered their appearance over their service history. Armament and aircraft fitted are just a couple of the elements featured. That leaves 5 pages of line drawings and a final page listing the references.
It is a great reference for those interested in the history of these 2 famous ships, and suitably inspirational for modellers thanks to the first class modellers' showcase.
Thanks to Seaforth Publishing and Pen & Sword for the review copy.
