Panzerwaffe on the Battlefield 4

...from Peko Publishing

Title: Panzerwaffe on the Battlefield 4
Author: Jon Feenstra
Publisher: Peko Publishing
ISBN: 9780615-6602-22-0

The latest addition to this popular series of WW2 photobooks from Peko Publishing, now reaching volume 25. A hard-cover landscape format book, with all the text, that is the introductory pages and the photo captions throughout the book, provided in both Hungarian and English languages.
The introduction includes 2 interesting tables. I lists the various AFV chassis that were used by the Werhmacht, and the numerous variants that were based on each one. Then it does the same for US AFVs, and the difference in those numbers is stark. With this as a background, the book goes on to illustrate a wide selection of the many variants that were used, using those different chassis. The photos are produced in a large size, 1 picture plus their captions to each page. They cover the whole period of the war, from Poland at the beginning, in North Africa and Russia, all the way through NW Europe and the end within the German homeland itself. I obviously can't list all the vehicles seen in the book, but just a few examples to give you an idea. From the small Panzer I, an ambulance as well as the PzJg I and 15cm sIG 33 (Sf). The Pz II gun tanks as well as the Marder II and Wespe. So it goes on, through Pz III, IV, V and VI, as well as those based on the Czech built Pz 38(t) and other captured vehicle types.
While a few of the pictures used are quite well known, the bulk of them I have not seen before. In fact, the sheer number of 'new' images that people can find still amazes me. The benefit of the large size pictures is that a lot of detail is plain to see. That makes them useful for the AFV historian/enthusiast and for the modeller in particular. Plenty of them offer some great inspiration for dioramas, with some in service, others knocked out, and some part dismantled for maintenance. With so many people interested in the whole subject of German AFVs of WW2, I have no doubt this will prove popular.
Thanks to Peko Publishing for the review copy.
