This marks number 26 in the On The Battlefield series of books from PeKo Publishing. A 108-page landscape format hard-cover book, with all the text/captions presented in both Hungarian and English languages.
The few opening pages give us the background to the unit, and of course the photos presented in this book. With each page devoted to a single archive picture along with its' dual language captions. A unit created in readiness for Operation Sealion, the invasion of Britain which never happened. Pz.Regt.18, with the addition of Panzer Abteilung (F) 100, equipped with Flammpanzers, on the Pz II Ausf D chassis, along with 5 on the Ausf E, went into action in Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the Soviet Union. So the majority of the images presented in this volume are early Pz III and Pz IV variants, along with various Pz IIs. As for the pictures of the Pz II Ausf D Flammpanzer, it is I think the best selection of archive images of these vehicles that I can remember seeing. Vehicles in service, some knocked out and others in maintenance scenes this is a great selection. The level of detail on the AFV variants, along with stowage, markings, weathering, uniforms and so on is really good. Military vehicle enthusiasts will like this selection, as will modellers who will enjoy the diorama ideas they will find in here.
The images come from the first half of the war, so all with panzer grey colours, and not a Panther or Tiger to be found. This is just the latest addition to what is clearly a very popular series of books from PeKo, a Hungarian based publisher. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this one.
Thanks to PeKo Publishing for the review copy.
