Namer Heavy IFV

...in IDF Service, from Desert Eagle Publishing

Title: Namer IFV in IDF Service - Part 1
Author: Michael Mass & Adam O'Brien
Publisher: Desert Eagle
ISBN: 978-965-7700-18-1

We get to number 31 in the series of books from Michael Mass and Desert Eagle Publishing and this time it focuses on the Namer, a Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle based on the Merkava chassis. An ideal companion for the Merkava (Lion) is the Namer (Leopard). A 106-page soft-cover book packed with high quality colour images, as we have come to expect from this series.
The book opens with a few pages of text where author Michael Mass, an established expert on IDF armour, gives us the background to the development of the IDF development of a Heavy IFV, offering much greater protection than the older M113 which despite being used in large numbers just doesn't offer the same level of protection to its' passengers. One or two of the photos show them side by side, and the difference in size between them is quite striking. Then it moves on to show us the assorted variants of the Namer family in clear detail, both inside and out. These include the basic APC along with Engineer, Technical Team and Command variants, along with the Trophy Defence system fittings, weapons, suspension system, markings and more. I also discovered the two different bow fittings, one for use as a battering ram and the other to allow for fast battlefield recovery.
Printed on excellent quality paper it is perfect to present the very high quality and detailed photos that fill every page of this new book. I remain a firm fan of paper copies of books and this is a marvellous example of why, even the feel of the book is just glorious. See a mix of vehicles working together along with close-up detail of the Namer family which from a modellers viewpoint, are to die for. Can't recommend this highly enough for anyone interested in IDF AFVs.
Thanks to Desert Eagle and UK distributor, the Aviation and Military Book Centre for our review copy.
