Modern Military Aircraft

...Fighters, Bombers, Reconnaissance, a Technical Guide from Amber Books

Title: Modern Military Aircraft
Author: Ryan Cunningham
Publisher: Amber Books
ISBN: 978-1-83886-111-7

Another new release in the Technical Guide series from Amber Books. A small format 128-page hard-cover book offering a handy reference to the wide variety of military aircraft in use around the world. Plenty of photos throughout the book as well as a good quality colour profile artwork for each entry.
The different sections in the book tackle Fighters, Bombers, Transport and Reconnaissance types in use by major air forces all around the world. The Fighters are sub-divided into Generations, featuring 4th, 4.5 and 5th Generation machines. To give a few examples, aircraft such as the F-14 Tomcat, Mirage 2000 and Mig 29 are among the 4th Generation entries; Eurofighter Typhoon, the Rafale, F-18 Super Hornet, Su-35, Shenyang J-11 and Mitsubishi F-2 are all among the 4.5 Generation; while the 5th Generation section includes the American F-22, Russian Su-57 and Chinese Chengdu J-20 among others. That leaves the last three sections to tackle Bombers; Strike & Attack Aircraft; and lastly, Transport and Reconnaissance aircraft. Among these are well known types such as the C-130 and C-17 transports, the B-2 Spirit and Tu-95 bombers, A-10 and Su-25 ground attack, and Saab Erieye, Boeing 737 AEW&C and Beriev A-50 reconnaissance machines just as a few examples. Each entry has a development and service outline, along with basic statistics of the airframe.
All together this give a useful reference to not only some well known aircraft types, it also features some that are less well known, particularly those equipping the modern Chinese (PLA) military. A useful reference at a good value price, and the profiles alone can provide some useful inspiration for modellers.
Thanks to Amber Books for our review copy.
