Title: Japanese Aircraft of WW2, 1937-1945
Author: Thomas Newdick

Published a couple of years ago, this is one of the handy Technical Guide series of hardbacks from Amber Books. A lot is packed into this 128 page book, plenty to interest the aircraft enthusiast.
After the Introduction come 5 specific sections, covering Land-based Bombers and Reconnaissance Aircraft; Land-based Fighters; Carrier Aircraft: Flying Boats and Floatplanes: plus Rocket and Jet Powered Aircraft. These detail all the many types used by the Japanese, some like the Zero, the Val and the Betty well known, and others less so. As for the Roocket and Jet aircraft, the Japanese copy of the Me163, and the Nakajima Nikka. These entries on the specific aircraft also include plenty of fine colour profiles. All this is followed by a separate section on Specifications and Data, which is in turn broken down into detailed tables and text, showing the Variants and Numbers built of the various aircraft types, along with a listing of Allied Reporting Names, the Japanese Naming and Numbering System, the Japanese Navy Air Service Short Designation System plus a selection of cutaway Technical Drawings.
A really useful little reference for all the Japanese aircraft types of WW2, well priced and plenty to interest the WW2 aviation historian and the modeller in particular. Very good little book.
Thanks to Amber Books for our review copy.
