...a new Solution Book from Ammo of Mig Jiminez

Title: How to Weather German Trains
Author: Enrique Calderon
Publisher: Ammo of Mig Jiminez
ISBN: 978-84-17846-78-7
A new Solution Book from Ammo, and the first for their Rail Center product line. A 63-page soft-cover book in the usual pictures and icons style of these Solutions books to support the multi-language text elements of English, Spanish, French and German.
The opening pages set the scene and then layout the 'recommended products' for the effects displayed in the book, and of course these are from the wide range of Ammo products, such as pigments, thinners, shaders, filters, washes, streaking effects, masking tape and more. That section is followed by a key for the many different icons used throughout the rest of the book. Then into the meat of the book, which is divided across 14 stages. With each one it covers the painting/weathering of a steam engine, a wooden cattle wagon, an oil tanker wagon and a bulk materials hopper wagon. So, 3 quite different wagons plus the loco itself and all showcasing slightly different effects, such as wear, dust, fuel and oil stains, rust and more. At the end of the book, the last couple of pages feature some handy colour photos of the real things.
I think one of the most important things about it all is that is gives a good guide as to what order you should consider for applying the different effects to get your desired end result. I know that some people will pass by these books for only featuring Ammo products, but seriously, what else should we expect? The reality is that we all have our own preferences, likes and dislikes. I am a fan of these Solution Books as you can simply follow them from start to finish or, for a more experienced modeller, you can choose which effects you want to have a go at, or which ones not to, and of course you can substitute your preferred products or even your own home made materials. Either way I think the sequence of applying the effects is in itself a very helpful guide.
Thanks to Ammo of Mig Jiminez for the review copy.
