Eastern Front, Vol 1

...Camouflage & Decals 1, from Kagero, via Casemate

Title: Eastern Front, Vol 1
Author: Kagero Publishing Team
Publisher: Kagero
ISBN: 978-83-66673-20-5

Number 1 in an all new Camouflage & Decals series from Kagero. A 40-page soft-cover book with the addition of a good size sheet of transfers/decals for German, Soviet & Polish AFVs, and duplicated in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/35 scales.
The opening page is a straightforward introduction to this new series of books from Kagero. It is followed by 21 pages of colour profiles featuring a variety of German AFVs. The first 2 pages feature panzer grey vehicles while the rest all have the post-1943 sand/green/red-brown camouflage schemes, and include some with winter whitewash camouflage. The last page features a captured KV-2 in German markings, and repainted in panzer grey. Then there are 19 pages (including the back cover) of Soviet/Polish armour with T-34s, JS-2s, ISU-152s, trucks and more. Most are in plain green, some with winter white, and a proportion of them feature markings for Polish units. One of the Soviet vehicles featured is not a wartime example, but a fictional favourite, T-34/85 'Rudy'. We might wonder why include a fictional one in the book, but considering the popularity of the equally fictional 'Fury' with modellers, then maybe not so surprising.
Plenty of ideas and inspiration for modellers and very well done colour profiles of a good mix of vehicle types. The transfers include German national markings and numbering, while the Soviet markings include some Polish Eagles. As they are in all three major modelling scales, this is a useful resource. As the first in the new Camouflage & Decals series this is a good start, and I for one am looking forward to seeing what will come next.
Thanks to Casemate for our review copy, the distributor for the Kagero series.
