The latest addition to the Bolt Action series of rule books from Osprey Games and Warlord Games. A 176-page soft-cover book with yet more scenarios and units to add to this popular wargaming series.
Case Blue was the operation to move on after the initial invasion of Russia (Operation Barbarossa). This is moving the campaign on to the German advance in the Southern areas of Russia, in an attempt to reach the valuable oil fields of the Caucasus. The book splits pretty much in two, with the first half holding as many as 19 different game scenarios. Each one has some historical information to set the scene, along with setting out the forces for each side to play the game, a plan of the gaming table, game duration, the objectives and the victory criterion required for success. Any special rules that apply are there as well, plus a section of Aftermath, a summary of what actually happened. That leaves the second half of the book to set out the details and special rules for new units, for Soviet, German, Italian, Hungarian, Romanian and Slovakian forces along with new theatre selectors and other special scenario rules that even include armoured trains.
Nice clear rules, though plenty of the, and really clear scenarios to tempt you into playing the games. Throughout the book there are plenty of illustrations, which include artwork for each scenario, a selection of uniforms for the various combatants which come from other Osprey books, plus many photos of some high quality painted miniatures and scenery. I feel these in themselves will provide plenty of inspiration to many modellers/gamers. Another good addition to the series I thought.
Thanks to Osprey Games for our review copy.
