This is the second edition of these Bolt Action WW2 Wargame Rules, from Warlord Games and Osprey Games together. A 160-page soft-cover book, an extension of the Bolt Action wargame rules, designed for use with 28mm scale models. There are a few elements of detail repeated from earlier books, but they are included so you don't need to have the other books in order to play the scenarios that are featured in this new one.
This one covers the US sector of the Normandy campaign. It is divided roughly into two halves, with the first half providing 12 different game scenarios. Each one has a historical introduction, then a plan for a gaming table, details of the units involved on both sides, the starting set-up, number of turns and the victory conditions for the two sides. In addition to the table layouts it is all very well illustrated with some of the lovely artwork found in some of the standard Osprey books, added to simply beautifully finished models, figures and terrain associated with the games. The second half of the book goes through the details of new units that are involved with this specific element of the campaign. It gives details for both sides, and includes units/equipment used by units such as the French Resistance, the German Falschirmjager and SS, The British SAS, the American Airborne and Rangers among many other bits of detail. Again, all very well illustrated throughout.
While aimed squarely at wargamers, I reckon there will be plenty of modellers who like this, even if they are not committed gamers. For those who are already regular users of the Bolt Action rules in their 28mm wargames, then this is a natural addition to your gaming library. For many modellers who may not be regular gamers, I reckon this might easily tempt you to try it out.
