Nakajima B5N Kate, TopDrawings 100
...B5N1 & B5N2, from Kagero, via Casemate
Title: Nakajima B5N Kate
Author: Anirudh Rao
An excellent indication of the success/popularity of the TopDrawings series from Kagero is that they have now reached number 100. The subject they have chosen for it is an aircraft famous for its' part in the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7 1941, the Nakajima B5N Kate.
A 20-page soft-cover book with the first page having the usual background text about the aircraft, presented in both English and Polish. The bulk of the book holds scale plans for the 2 variants of the 'Kete', the B5N1 and the B5N2, the most notable difference between the two being the different engines they used. Plans for both types are featured in 1/48 within the main pages, plus there are two larger, fold-out sheets tucked in between the centre pages, with 1/72 and 1/32 plans as well. Within the main pages there are also a useful selection of details picked out in larger scale illustrations, such as for the radial engines, various cross sections of wings and fuselage along with the torpedo and bombs they could carry. The centre pages and back cover hold 7 lovely colour profiles, 4 of which feature aircraft that participated in the Pearl Harbor attack.
There are some good kits of the Kate available so these will help modellers looking to check/add detail and the colour schemes illustrated will be useful inspiration I am sure. Another excellent addition to the series, and one to both please aircraft fans and mark the milestone of number 100 in the series.
