Title: Men of the Battle of Britain, A Supplementary Volume
Author: Kenneth G. Wynn
Publisher: Frontline Books
I remember reviewing the large, 3rd edition of Men of the Battle of Britain which was published in 2015, which itself added more material since the publication of the first edition, back in 1989. Published in conjunction with the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust this new Supplementary Volume adds even more information that has been gathered since then.
A large format 116-page hardback book this is an invaluable addition to the earlier book. What this has are all the revised entries for many pilots for whom there has been additional information added to their individual records since the third revision. Presented in Alphabetical order, it presents the revised details in full and has a note against each one saying when the update was applied. Even famous pilots like Douglas Bader will be found among the 330 individuals who are included as more information has been found/verified thanks largely to official records. There is also one completely new entry, for Sergeant Pilot Donald Brown of 604 Squadron who has been found to be entitled to the Battle of Britain Clasp. At the back of the book there is also a list of all the squadrons which took part in the Battle, with the dates they were at particular bases and their main equipment (aircraft) during the fighting.
If you already have the 2015 edition, then you will want to have this new volume to add to it. If you haven't, and have a serious interest in the Battle of Britain and the men who fought for the 'Few', then the two books really should be among your references I suggest.
