Title: Kit Build: Grumman F6F Hellcat
Author: Robert Scalbania, Robert Wasik
Publisher: Kagero
ISBN: 978-83-66148-94-9

Number 3 in the Kit Build series from Kagero, a 58-page soft-cover book detailing two superb model builds of the Hellcat, both from Eduard kits. As usual with Kagero, text throughout is provided in both English and Polish.
The first half of the book tackles the Eduard 1/72 F6F-3 Weekend Edition kit for an example from VF-15 squadron, operating from the USS Essex. Well illustrated at each stage of the build process, this is a build effectively out of the box, but very expertly finished and all clearly explained by Robert Wasik. The second half of the book is a build by Robert Skalbania of another Eduard kit, but this time the 1/48 Weekend Edition kit of the Hellcat Mk I, flown by the Fleet Air Arm in 1944. This on though is much more complex as it adds lots of resin detailing parts for the cockpit, engine, etc with Eduard Brassin and Aires sets, each of which is detailed at the start of the build. Beautifully built and painted, everything is well explained and illustrated with high quality pictures. The engine assembly in particular is a real gem. Just to add to the book there are a series of pages with full colour artwork at the end which offer even more ideas for you to try. The quality of both builds really are first class. The final point to mention is the inclusion of a set of painting masks for the US stars in both scales.
Aircraft modellers will love this one I am certain, and I did like to see the mix of manufacturers paints and weathering materials that are used, rather than being clearly geared to promoting one specific supplier for these two builds. Recommended.
